...put your nuts away
I made a little road trip to California this weekend to visit with my friend Brandi and to catch Wil Wheaton in Acme's Love Machine.
The trip was great and the show was fabulous! We chatted with Wil for a bit after the show. When Wil offers up a compliment or comment you never get the feeling that he's simply blowing smoke up your ass. He's just incredibly genuine and sincere, so when he opened up our conversation with something along the lines of "Wow! You look great! Really great!" I was absolutely floored. As we were chatting he made sure to introduce us to all the cast members and friends that passed buy. While introducing us to the director of the show he mistakenly said that I had driven from Tucson instead of Phoenix. I joked that he tacked on an extra hour and a half to my drive to make it sound cooler. The next introduction he said that I drove from Santa Fe... no, El Paso! Hehe.
We chatted a bit about computers, leaving Brandi to just smile, nod and try not to look congused. I mentioned that I had joined the Mac family with a 17" iMac G5 (not as sweet as his 20" iMac G5) and I was planning on getting an iBook as well. He also seemed impressed by my ability to run my own mail server from my home.
We were invited to join him and the cast for drinks next door, but were warned about the cliquey nature of theatre groups. Though that would have been hella cool (and I am kind of kicking myself for it now), we ended up going bowling instead. We didn't want to feel like we were intruding at all.
So to recap: the show rawked and Wil rawks.

12,000 miles
I have had my cute little Ford Focus for just under a year now and I realized that I was sneaking up on the 12,000 mile mark. I had been planning on taking in the car in a few weeks after it had actually reached the mileage that was scribble in black sharpie on that little sticker in the upper right corner of my windshield, 12,374 (or 02/05). My odometer was just passing 11,500 this past week and after doing some calculations I cam to the realization that I would be smack dab in the middle of my road trip to LA when I reached that magic maintenance number. Since it's never a good idea to go on a road trip right before your due for an oil change (I am such a responsible car owner now), I made an appointment for today.
I pulled into the dealership's service center and waited patiently for the service specialist (or whatever they are called) to come over to check my mileage and ensure that I sign the service release form so that they can touch my car without the fear of litigation.
The service guy came over, we'll call him 'Chuck,' and did a double take when he glanced at my odometer.
I looked down as well and laughed. "I guess I timed this pretty good."
12000.

Adium to me
Ever since I bought my iMac I have been in search of a Mac compatable caht software worthy enough to replace my beloved Trillian (which they won't port to OS X). Originally I discovered two choices, Fire, which is freeware, and Proteus, which is $15 shareware that you can use on a trial basis.
I tried Fire first. It was the whole 'free' thing that sold me. the major problem with that program was that you could only have one account per type signed on at once. This just wouldn't do since I have two AIM screen names that I like to keep signed on at all times. The program was quickly dumped.
Proteus, while it did its job of combining all the IM programs (AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, MSN, etc) into one interface, that's about all it accomplished. It wasn't very configurable and there were a lot of features missing (like mail notification and being able to block people). At least I was able to sign on to all of my accounts though, so that's what I used for a long time.
Today I discovered Adium X. Although it still dosen't have all the features of Trillian, it is by far the best chat software that is available for OS X. And it's free! There are tons of extra add ons and themes that you can downoad. Yay. I am happy.

I think I'm in love...
Or lust. Apple just introduced the newest member of their family at MacWorld today. Mac Mini. Sexy doesn't even begin to describe it. I don't really need a new computer, but damn, I want one!!

The system was down
Two days ago my modem decided that it no longer liked to forward ports, so consequently my sites were down. I smacked the bitch around for a bit and it finally decided to cooperate again. Yea! It seems like everything is backup and running and I can now access my computers from work again. I was seriously going through withdrawl for two days at work. Suck ass.
Just in case anyone was wondering, the little trip home went better than expected. It was great staying with my brother away from the drama, though it was a little strange having to visit everyone seperately. Gabby gave me a cold for X-mas. Yea. I was getting better until New Years Eve, then it hit me again - hard. I am currently on another down swoop, so hopefully I can kick it for good this time.
