Frackin Awesome

Since I have not mentioned it here before, let me take this time to tell you how fracking awesome the new Battlestar Galactica series is.

I have been hooked since the very first episode, though my first viewing of it was plagued with confusion since I had not yet seen the mini series that provides the background. I watched the mini series and then viewed the first episode again and all was clear.

They are re airing the mini series this month on Sci Fi, so check it out. Seriously.

There are three fundamental elements that need to work together to form a thoughtful, engaging show. If two of the three elements are there in abundance, it's usually still pretty entertaining. These elements are characters, writing and art direction.

The new BSG has all three of these in spades.

The characters have a wonderful quality and depth to them. They are real and you truly give a frack about what happens to them. My favorite happens to be Starbuck. She got some slack from the fans of the old Battlestar Galactica since the character was a guy in that series. Of course, I am always a sucker for chicks that kick ass.

Not only is the storyline intricate, full of twists and turns, but the dialog has a wonderful flow and believability. I think this contributes a lot to the characters as well. Out of the 13 episodes that aired in the first season, there was not one that I found mediocre or substandard. Some were better than other, of course, but none of them were painful to watch, as the case can be with a new series that is still trying to find its feet.

Finally, it is simply stunning to watch. The direction and feel of the show is unique and adds to the overall tone of the show. The space shots look like they were filmed by a camera guy floating in space. The crisp, jumpy editing is effective without going over the top. The whole look and feel of the show is just incredible.

Everything just comes together to create a hugely entertaining hour of television. I have only one complaint:

That frackin cliffhanger that they left us with last month. And there won't be another episode until July. I am going to go nuts!

Fly new pad

Wednesday I put the deposit down on a new apartment. It's a one bedroom loft with one and a half bath. And it's freaking gorgeous.

The ceilings in the living room are 19 ft. And there is a full size washer and dryer in the unit. There are two patios, one off the living room down stairs and a smaller one off the bedroom upstairs. The big windows overlook the back pool. There are two pools and two jacuzzi as well as a small fitness center.

Also, its in a killer location. Just off the 51 freeway and literally up the street from my work. Dance class is just up the 51. It's also really close to a great (though expensive) part of town called the Biltmore area. There are tons of restaurants and shopping and stuff. It's close enough to the area, but it's not in the area, so you don't have to pay the Biltmore prices.

I am set to move in on the 19th of May. I will hopefully begin packing soon. Yeah, right.
