Hidden fangirl
Many know of my Star Trek fangirl persona. I tend to let her out often, but unless you’ve known me for a while, you might not be familiar with another fangirl that I keep hidden. I have been a huge fan of Reba for half my life now, a fact I just realized last night at her concert in Tucson. Since 1992 I have seen her in concert more times than I can remember (but I think it might be 27). I was 13 when I first saw her live. And now at 26 I am still shelling out the money and making the drive if necessary. Last night it was only a 2 hour drive to the concert, but I have driven as long as 4-5 hours.
The show was amazing (as always) and I had great seats. I was finally able to find a setting on my camera that allowed for good concert pictures. They are in my photo gallery if you’re interested. She’s still absolutely adorable. I am just amazed that she’s 50.
Teri Clark and Brad Paisley opened up and although I missed most of Teri Clark’s set, I did catch Brad Paisley. Out of all the songs he sang I think I might have heard one of them before. I don’t listen to country anymore, can you tell. He was slightly entertaining and a bit of a cutie though, so it was tolerable. It seems as though David Duchovny’s stand in is now Brad Paisley’s fiddle player though, complete with pouty lower lip and floppy season 4 hair. Though he seems a bit gayer than Mulder and he looked kind of like Mike Meyers when he sang. Strange.
Besides Reba’s great show, another fun part of the night was blasting System of a Down while in line to leave the parking lot. Good times.

My Trip to the Apple Store
… or When White Trash and the Biltmore Collide
There are only two Apple stores here in the Phoenix metro area and both are in fairly upscale malls. The one that is right by my new apartment is in the Biltmore Fashion Square. This ‘mall’ reeks of upper-class yuppie filth.
I do love the Apple store though. This particular outing was because my iPod headphones that I got for Christmas were once again busted. I had only gotten the replacement pair less than two months ago. Needless to say I was not too happy.
My foul mood was fueled by this white trash family that came in right after me, but had gotten a place in line before me because for some reason my first attempt to sign up for the Genius Bar didn’t work. Though other types of people besides upper-class yuppies do go to the Biltmore, such as myself, for some reason this family just stuck out for me. Maybe it was because I had to listen to them while I waited.
The worst member of this family by far was the teenage daughter. First of all, she was whiny. Second, she had a disgusting tan. She was probably only about 15 or so, but her skin looked like shit. Her hair was blonde (probably bleached) and was ratty, haphazardly pinned up and a dirty Playboy visor sat askew on her head. She wore the teen uniform of Phoenix - a tube top, a pair of jean shorts and flip-flops. After disappearing in the bathroom for a bit, she emerged with her lips slathered with icy cotton candy pink lip gloss. I just cannot fathom how anyone would think that they look good wearing that.
As I waited I was serenaded by her whines for water, and money to go buy water and whines about being told to go ask the restaurant across the way for a glass of water. Then as the wait dragged on she began whining about how it was taking too long. Then dad came in with the harmony, bitching to the son about having to come into the store in the first place because his iPod that was broken.
I ended up getting called up right after they did so I was able to overhear their predicament. Turns out the kid’s iPod had a huge crack in the screen causing some of the black liquid stuff to ooze out under the crack, essentially making the screen completely unreadable. The Genius at the bar explained to them that this kind of damage is not covered by warranty since it takes a pretty big force to break the screen like that. Basically it was the polite way of saying that the kid broke it himself either by dropping it onto a really hard surface or throwing it across the room, probably at his whiny-ass sister.
The mother of course refused to buy the kid a new one. I don't blame her. She said that the thing still played music fine, the kid would just have to deal with not being able to read the screen.
The kid dejectedly packed up his iPod and the family left.
Kind of anti-climactic, but this family has been stuck in my brain for at least a week now and I had to do something to get them out.

Shiny new iPod
I once again had issues with my in-ear headphones for my iPod. The left one went out again. This is the second time since I got them in December. So I made another trip to the Apple store. While I was there it was discovered that my center button on my iPod was busted. It still functioned, but you had to press it pretty hard. I always thought that was how it was supposed to work. Who knew.
SO I ended up going home with not only an brand new pair of headphones, but also a shiny new iPod. I've named her Miral since my iMac is Tom Paris and my iBook is B'Elanna (If you don't get the reference then never mind).
I am off to buy Miral a nice leather case to keep her safe.

The Light at the end of the tunnel
I only have one more class this semester and then I am taking a break. With moving and work and school and everything I can feel a burnout coming soon unless I get a breather from something. Since it will be the two week "summer vacation" for Keller and then I am taking the next semester off, it will be a full 10 week break!
Not getting the extra financial aid money might suck, especially with the trip to Vegas, but that's what credit cards are for.
I am going to take this extra time I will have to unpack and decorate the new pad, maybe write some more and read. I can't wait.
Until then, I have a 15 page paper that I need to write and a presentation to put together. Good times.

It's official.
I am now completely moved out of my old apartment. I turned in the keys yesterday. Now all I have to do is go through all the damn boxes at the new place and put it all together (or stash boxes away in the closets).
The new place is as awesome as I thought it would be. The stairs are proving to be a great source of exercise. My first night in the place I had to run up and down them three times after supposedly going to bed because I forgot someting.
My new TV freaking rocks as does my TiVo.
After the boxes are taken care of then it's time to put together the dining room table and chairs and decorate! I think I need a new bed set.
